VOLCAN CONCEPCIÓN
El Concepción se aproxima a ser un cono perfecto; es el volcán más grande en Ometepe, con una altura de 1,610 metros. Está todavía activo, el humo sale de su cráter y hay otras fumarolas también en la ladera.
Necesitará de mucha energía, resistencia y buena condición física para poder subir el Concepción. Es una de las escaladas más difíciles en Nicaragua, pues las cuestas son muy empinadas y el volcán es bastante alto. La parte baja de las laderas está cubierta de árboles. Primero caminará a través de plantaciones de bananos y plátanos. A la mitad del camino atravesará un denso bosque húmedo. Luego, la vegetación se hace menos densa y menos alta en la cima.
Rocas grandes y pequeñas no harán el camino fácil, y en el descenso tendrá que poner mucha atención en dónde coloca sus pies. Además, la lluvia y la humedad harán que las rocas estén más resbalosas y le añadirán un nivel de dificultad más al camino. No se imagine tomando el sol en la cima de este volcán, pues el cráter está siempre cubierto de nubes y las condiciones climatológicas de la cumbre no son muy agradables. Su ropa en este punto estará mojada debido al sudor y la humedad, y el viento fuerte lo obligarán a descender rápidamente.
No obstante, su esfuerzo y la dificultad serán recompensados. En primer lugar, ascender ese gigantesco volcán ya es un logro. Asimismo, estar en la cima es una experiencia única. El viento fresco que sopla allí arriba chocará con el calor emitido por el cráter del volcán, es por eso que tendrá dos sensaciones a la vez: el calor del cráter y el frescor del viento. Se le suman al ambiente único la vegetación rara que posee el volcán.
Si tiene suerte, no habrán nubes en la punta del volcán lo que le dará la posibilidad de tener una magnífica vista de toda Ometepe, el Lago de Nicaragua y la tierra firme. De la misma manera, las vistas cuando se desciende son impresionantes.
Ascender y descender el Concepción tomará entre 7 y 10 horas. Es por eso que debe de llevar suficiente agua y comida, y prepararse bien. Una camisa seca y una chaqueta son también de utilidad. Salga temprano, preferiblemente al alba, para que pueda regresar a tiempo, antes del anochecer. Tiene que contratar a un guía, lo cual puede ser arreglado por su hotel.

Big and smaller rocks do not provide an easy path to the top. If you are very lucky to be at the top when there are no clouds, you will have a magnificent view of Ometepe, Lake Nicaragua, and the main land. Nevertheless, the views when descending are quite spectacular as well.
Ascending and descending the Concepción will take between seven and ten hours. You should therefore bring enough water and food, and prepare well. A dry shirt or jacket can help too. Leave early (preferable at sunrise) so you return on time. You have to hire a guide, which can be arranged by your hotel.
